General Information

Invitation to Attend

The Tasmania Fire Service will be hosting the Australasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO) annual road rescue competitions from 26 – 29 April 2012 in conjunction with Ambulance Tasmania, State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police. Marketed as Road Rescue Challenge Tasmania 2012 and held at Princes Wharf the event is expected to attract 250 – 350 competitors and supporters.

The Road Rescue Challenge Tasmania 2012 will demonstrate best practice in road crash management as well as providing a forum for agencies involved in road rescue to learn new techniques and skills and expose them to new car technology. Commencing with a learning symposium followed by three days of practical scenario competition and learning workshops, the event will also include a trade exhibition designed to showcase the latest technology in rescue equipment.

The high profile location Princes Wharf along with planned publicity will ensure the event attracts public interest and as the events run over the week it’s proposed to have the events and the associated trade displays open to the public. This will provide the added benefit of publically promoting road safety and the work of our emergency services.

About the Australasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO)

ARRO is the peak body in Australasia for the development of knowledge and skills in road rescue.

ARRO was established as the Australian National Road Accident Rescue Association (ANRARA) in 1996. ANRARA changed its name to ARRO in 2003 to better reflect its’ position on the World Rescue Organisation (WRO), ARRO represents Australasia at the WRO.

The vision of the WRO is to create a global rescue
environment where any person involved in an entrapment or stranding incident anywhere in the world will be rescued and medically cared-for using best practices that are safe, effective and efficient, therefore maximising survival and recovery opportunities.

Through its involvement in road rescue challenges, and knowledge of the latest technologies, ARRO strives to improve the science and quality of rescue services provided to casualties and, therefore, a reduction in the severity of injuries.
